Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focused largely on grappling and ground fighting. It relies on leverage and precise technique to establish dominant control on the ground, offering the best position to resolve conflict through submissions.
Practiced correctly, BJJ is one of the most effective ways to handle larger, stronger opponents. Its success in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has driven worldwide popularity. Students can train for self-defense, sport Jiu-Jitsu (including submission grappling), or MMA competition — making BJJ an essential component of nearly every elite martial artist’s journey.
Starting martial arts can be intimidating for beginners. Our Fundamentals Class at Grip HQ and all affiliate schools is designed to make learning easy and safe, focusing on controlled drilling of techniques before moving into live sparring.
This class lays the foundation for every student, teaching the core concepts of BJJ and engraining proper movement into muscle memory. With this format, students develop control, precision, and confidence while minimizing risk of injury.
Our Intermediate Class combines fundamental, intermediate, and advanced techniques. Training begins with drilling, followed by technical study, and concludes with positional training.

Submission Grappling, or No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, applies the same principles as traditional BJJ without the gi (uniform). Without grips on fabric, takedowns resemble wrestling, while ground transitions become faster and more dynamic.
We recommend students first establish solid fundamentals in BJJ before moving to No-Gi. A strong base in control, leverage, and technique ensures a safer and more productive learning experience.
